Article 370

Here are 11 facts related to Article 370 that every Indian must know:

  1. A person from Jammu and Kashmir has dual citizenship (Indian and Kashmiri).
  2. The duration for State Assembly is of Six years whereas for other states it is five years.
  3. If a Kashmiri woman marries outside the state, she loses her state citizenship. Whereas, if she marries a Pakistani citizen, her husband gets Indian as well as Kashmiri citizenship.
  4. No Indian outside Kashmir can buy property in J&K.
  5. RTI and CAG don’t apply in Jammu and Kashmir.
  6. Union Government’s power is restricted to Defence, Foreign Affairs and Communications only. For anything beyond these, the Central Govt can act in concurrence with the State Government.
  7. Can Article 370 be revoked? Yes, it can be. The President of India can announce that Article 370 cease to exist BUT only on the recommendations of the Constituent Assembly of the State.
  8. Rulings of Supreme Court not applicable in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
  9. Jammu and Kashmir is the only state to have its own flag.
  10. Under Article 370 the Indian Parliament cannot increase or reduce the borders of the state.
